The Hall was opened in 1927 as a place for the community of Galiano to gather socially for entertainment and education.
So it has remained.

The Galiano Club was first registered as a non-profit society in 1924 when it began construction of the Community Hall.

Since then the Club has operated and maintained the Hall, making many additions and improvements over the years.


Hall regulations:
The key for the Hall is available at the Daystar Market and must be signed out.
Smoking is not permitted in the Hall.
Consumption of alcohol is not permitted without a liquor license and is not permitted outside the Hall.
The Hall seating capacity is 100 people. Do not block exits or access to kitchen.
Keep Fire Exits and wheelchair washroom access clear at all times.

While using the Hall:

Please keep all exit doors accessible. Be aware of the location of all fire extinguishers. All outside lights should be switched on for evening events; these switches are located inside the Hall vestibule and inside the main Hall on the wall to the left of the door.
Chairs are stored in a room to the left of the stage area. Some large banquet tables are stored on sliding trays located under the stage itself; some card tables can be found behind the door located to the right of the main Hall entrance door.
A PA System is available: arrange for it's use with the Booking Director.
An assortment of dishes, glasses and cutlery is in the kitchen cupboards and drawers. After use, rinse clean and place into the dishwasher/sterilizer (instructions posted). Coffee makers use regular "perk grind" coffee. Instructions for using the propane gas stove are posted.

For events serving liquor:
The renter is responsible for getting a Liquor License, purchasing liquor and ensuring servers hold a "Serve It Right" certificate.

Cleaning:
Sweep the floors in kitchen, bar, and main hall; wipe kitchen counters. Check that all garbage/recyclable material is removed from bldg.
Please help us. Cleaning the Hall is an expense. A cleaning fee will be added to the rent if extra cleaning is required. Cleaning materials are located in cupboards near kitchen exit door.

Garbage:
The renter is responsible for removal of garbage , including food waste (compost). Please recycle cans, bottles, papers, plastics.

Closing and Locking the Hall:
Return all chairs and tables to storage areas; all dishes and cutlery to cupboards and drawers. Start at the rear of the building and ensure that every door and window is shut and locked, that all lights are out in the: prop room, dressing room, backstage area, kitchen and main hall area, outside.
Return thermostat to '8' (in winter time only).
A "comments book" is located in the kitchen: all Hall users are encouraged to add suggestions, observations, etc.
Please leave the Hall as clean and neat as you found it.
Any damage should be reported to the Hall
Monitor as soon as possible after an event. j

Emergencies:
Telephone 911 For Police, Fire, Ambulance;
a phone is located in the kitchen (539-2175).
Fire extinguishers are situated throughout the Hall. A First Aid kit is in the kitchen, to the left of the entrance door.
The Galiano Club appoints a Hall Monitor each month to be responsible for Hall activities. Should you need further assistance, have any questions concerning your use of the Hall, telephone the appropriate Hall Monitor from the list posted in the kitchen area.

These rates are subject to change. Please check them with booking director when arranging for Hall rental.
